TAYA777: Responsible Gaming Starts Before You Play
Twenty-one is the floor, not a suggestion. Casino gaming anywhere licensed in the Philippines carries a 21-and-over rule, and PAGCOR states it plainly on its own responsible gaming page. Nothing below assumes a reader is already struggling; it assumes a reader wants to stay ahead of that.
Set a limit before the first spin
A loss limit is a number decided before play starts, not during it, and it is the single habit that separates a session from a spiral. The loss limit entry defines it in one line; the bankroll management page turns it into a betting-unit routine you can actually follow.
Recognise the warning signs
- Spending or betting more money than you meant to.
- Repeatedly trying to win back what you’ve lost.
- Borrowing, selling belongings or taking on debt to keep playing.
- Lying to family about time or money spent gambling.
- Feeling hopeless or anxious about gambling, or letting it cost a job, a relationship or sleep.
PAGCOR publishes this list on its own responsible gaming page as part of its Responsible Gaming Code of Practice. The gambling addiction Philippines page expands each sign and adds what a family member might notice instead.
PAGCOR’s self-exclusion and family exclusion
A player can apply to PAGCOR directly for self-exclusion lasting 6 months, 1 year or 5 years; the first six months cannot be reversed once approved. A spouse, an adult child or a parent can apply separately, under PAGCOR’s family exclusion programme, to have a loved one excluded instead. Both routes, the forms they need and what happens after approval are covered in full on the gambling addiction Philippines help page.
Help that doesn’t wait
The National Problem Gambling Helpline takes calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on (02) 8248-9568, staffed by counsellors from Seagulls Flock Organization Inc. working with PAGCOR. It is free to call and takes calls from a player or from someone worried about one.
Make it sustainable, not a one-off
A limit set once and never revisited tends to slip. Check in with it after every session: did the loss limit hold, and did the time spent match what was planned beforehand? Two or three sessions where it didn’t is itself worth treating as one of the warning signs above, not a separate problem.
